Blackberry Smash

Blackberry Smash Summer Cocktail Recipe

Cause, you know, this election season could really drive you to drink. I literally started practicing yoga again (after... ahem... 6 years) in the hopes of countering not only my normal life stress but the added election stress. Doesn't it just feel so nuts right now?

So go make a cocktail, and why not smash something in the process? Get out your muddler (or the end of a wooden spoon or whatever you've got), and do a little damage.

I used some of Natalie Jacobs' Hibiscus Tea Syrup that she made for our Women & Whiskies party (recipe lives here), but you could use regular simple syrup as well.

Stop listening to me jabber, and go get your weekend on, people! With one of these in hand.

Strawberry Basil Smash

Strawberry Basil Smash Summer Cocktail Recipe

With this heat wave in NYC, it definitely feels like it's finally summer. Kid's in camp, air conditioners are installed, and we finally got around to planning a beach vacation.

My favorite way to beat the heat this weekend? A super easy and delicious strawberry rum smash cocktail. You probably have the ingredients — strawberries, rum, sugar, lime juice, basil — and its slushy, fruity goodness is exactly the kind of treat that's perfect on a hot summer night.

Women & Whiskies Cocktail Party Recipes

Tonight, we're co-hosting Women & Whiskies second NYC event, a summer cocktail party in the lovely garden at Tuffet. We've been planning, designing, and plucking edible flowers for cocktails and can't wait to party with over 50 whiskey loving women in Brooklyn.

Our friend Natalie Jacob — a bartender with a serious knack for the beautiful — came up with a menu of summery whiskey cocktails featuring Glen Grant Scotch, Wild Turkey Bourbon, and Forty Creek Whisky that I'm so excited to share.

We got together at the Love & Victory studio this week, gave the cocktails a test run and took some photos.

Here are the recipes if you'd like to give them a whirl for yourself!

Pretty in Pink

1 oz Glen Grant Scotch
1 oz Aperol
3/4 oz lemon juice
3/4 oz hibiscus tea syrup *
sparkling wine
edible flowers such as pansies or impatiens

Combine scotch, Aperol, lemon juice, and hibiscus tea syrup in a mixing glass with ice and stir. Strain into a wine glass or coupe, and top with sparkling wine. Garnish with flowers.

* To make Hibiscus Tea Syrup, steep 2 Hibiscus tea bags in 1 cup water for 5 minutes. Add 1 cup of sugar, and stir. Let cool, stirring periodically to dissolve sugar. Refrigerate.

Kentucky Morning

1 1/2 oz Wild Turkey Bourbon
1/4 oz Honey Syrup
1/4 oz Giffard Crème de Pêche de Vigne
2 dashes Angostura Bitters
lemon twist garnish

Build all ingredients in double rocks glass with ice, Old Fashioned style. Stir and garnish with a long lemon twist.

Triple Crown

3/4 oz Forty Creek Whisky
3/4 oz Giffard Pamplemousse Rose
3/4 oz Averna
3/4 oz lemon juice

Add ingredients to shaker with ice. Shake and strain into a coupe. Garnish with a lemon wheel.

Strawberry Daiquiri

For fear of sounding like the boy (girl) who cried wolf over here, this cocktail is so freaking delicious. You have to have one! I know I say that sometimes, but trust me. Like now. Or tomorrow, since you need to infuse the rum.

Strawberry Daiquiris get a bad rap. This ain't no frozen crap (though if I were lounging by a pool in Palm Springs, you could definitely offer me one of those, too, and I'd enjoy it!). And it's super easy. And the color! Gorgeous. Hello, summer. So good to see you a month early.

Hope you all have the best weekend. My husband, Willy, and a whole bunch of my pals are running the Brooklyn Half Marathon tomorrow. I'll be drinking on of these afterwards to soothe my throat that'll be sore from screaming.

STRAWBERRY DAIQUIRI

2 oz strawberry infused rum *
1 oz fresh lime juice
1/2 oz simple syrup or 1/4 oz gum syrup (We used gum syrup to give it more body)
1 egg white (optional)

* To make strawberry infused rum, combine strawberries and light rum in a non reactive container. We used a 1 lb. container of strawberries for a 750 ml bottle of rum. Let sit for 24 hours. Strain.

Combine ingredients in shaker with ice. Shake well (45 seconds would work) and strain into a coupe. Garnish with a lime wheel.

Blood Orange Pimm's Cup

Pimm's Cup Cocktail Recipe By Love & Victory

Remember the pretty homemade limoncello and blood orange and grapefruit variations we made recently? It's true, they are the perfect thing to sip on after a meal, but we've also put them to the test with some refreshing cocktails to sip on....all day? Here's a nice variation on a classic Pimm's Cup, using our blood orange-cello or Arancello Rosso and some club soda in lieu of the lemonade or citrus soda.
