So much of the work I do these days is virtual—I've yet to meet many friends & folks I work with whose names are in my inbox on the regular. So it's fun to be able to connect with them a little more with the blog.
For this piece in our Where I'm Drinking series, one of our new stockists, Toby Burke Hemingway, of Los Angeles' Hemingway and Pickett, shares with us some of his favorite neighborhood watering holes. Hemingway and PIckett is the first shop in L.A. to carry Love & Victory, and we're so stoked that things are selling really well! They are located in Silver Lake and have a collection of rad artwork, jewelry, books, paper goods, and housewares.
And—it turns out—Toby is very funny. Thanks, Toby. I needed that laugh!
L&E Oyster Bar — Conveniently located steps from our menswear store Hemingway and Sons. I don’t even like oysters, but the upstairs bar is a lovely, airy room, with a small balcony overlooking Silver Lake Blvd. They have a nice beer selection and it’s just the perfect spot to duck into after work for a quick beer. Their Happy Hour snacks are high class, too.
LATE NIGHT DRINKS
The Varnish — Probably the first serious, “craft” cocktail bar to launch the renaissance in LA and still the best. They don’t stand for any nonsense in there; so you know, even if it’s late, and you can slip into an open booth, you won’t be surrounded by some loud bunch of knuckleheads ordering shots. Sure, sometimes maybe I AM the loud knucklehead ordering shots, but never at The Varnish.
HAIR OF THE DOG / BRUNCH
The Black Cat — Another one right in the neighborhood. This bar/restaurant was completely remodeled a few years ago and the guys did a wonderful job. The Black Cat carries a lot of local history and they carry it with class. Nice big, inviting green booths. Simple delicious food. Good drinks. And some of the friendliest, most professional service in town. What more could you ask for in the AM?
