Who loves L&V: Kaitlin Palmieri

In honor of Mother's Day, we have mom to three, Kaitlin Palmieri. A teacher in Rhode Island, Kaitlin somehow manages to juggle it all: a full time job, family, and friends—all the while with the most impeccable style. Funny that she references Jackie O. in her interview, because that would definitely be her historical doppelganger.

Kaitlin & I are both tight pals with Erin O'Rourke, and I often joke that Kaitlin and I probably hear more about each other through Erin than most friends hear from each other directly. And from what I hear, lady's got her act TO-gether. Teach me the ways, Kait!

36

Where do you live?

Occupation?

Teacher {grade 5}

Which product did you pick?

Custom Cut Paper Silhouettes of my three children. I had these made in a larger size in pink and navy and they are a permanent fixture on the mantel in our living room.  I love them because they were made when we first moved into our house so they serve as a nice reminder of what the kids were like when this became our home almost two years ago.  Also, the silhouettes look so much like each of them!

What do your kids think of them?

Ellie {8}: I like them. A lot!
James {5}: They're good...I really like the one of me.
Beatrice {2.5}: That's Ellie. And James. And Bea!

How would you describe your style?

Someone recently said something about my style being preppy with an edge, and I guess that's me.  As classic as some of my clothes are, I like to mix things up a bit too.  I suppose that applies to the way I decorate my home as well.

Whose style do you stalk?

As cliche as this may sound, my style icon is Jackie Kennedy. I do love Jenna Lyons's style and seeing what new things she's bringing to J.Crew.  I'm a big fan of Erin Gates's Elements of Style blog and book. I love the color and pattern Bailey McCarthy incorporates in her design and what she's created at Biscuit

What's your favorite way to spend Saturday Morning?

It's a luxury for me to lounge in bed. I leave my house pretty early during the week so I enjoy reading in bed on weekend mornings before I go for a run or take a yoga class.

Coffee or tea?

Neither, it's shocking to most people!

Secret recipe breakfast of champions?

Favorite Breakfast: whole wheat everything bagel toasted with chive cream cheese and sliced tomatoes (preferably heirlooms)

Cocktail of choice?

Grapefruit flavored vodka with diet lime tonic, and 2 lime wedges squeezed, on the rocks

Item you’d never part with?

My camera, I'm a crazy photo taker.

Most regrettable fashion choice?

There may have been some bad choices involving Jessica McClintock and Laura Ashley dresses back in the early 90's.

Next on your reading list?

All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr—historical fiction is my favorite genre and I especially love books about WWII

Biggest peeves?

Unkindness and bad punctuation.

Biggest indulgence?

The child-free vacation that my husband and I take annually.  We always try a place that's new to at least one of us. Last year we went to Puerto Rico and this year we are going to Carmel, Big Sur, and Monterey before heading to Napa for the wedding of one of my college roommates.

Who Loves L&V: Meagan Coomber

Meagan_Coomber Birdling Bag

Up next in our Who Loves L&V series, is a designer whom I admire, Meagan Coomber of Birdling Bags. She and her partner, Courtney, design stylish and practical travel bags that are perfect for moms—or anyone really. When I had Louella, I was so disappointed to see that so many bags intended for moms were dowdy and unstylish. Birdling has nailed the bag that has style and function and is perfectly understated.

Meagan's a mother of three, and it always makes me happy to see another self-employed mother making it work. Plus, she's from my home state of New Jersey, so fist bumps for that.

Which product did you pick? Why?

I love ALL the products and have gifted the decanter set a few times for weddings, but for my house I chose the silhouettes. Profiles have always stood the test of time. I can remember doing them in first grade!

What do your kids think of them?

My kids love the profiles and keep asking me when I am going to get my youngest son Harry's done.

How would you describe your style?

Modern and relaxed.

Whose style do you stalk?

Jessie Randall and Alexa Chung—I could look at Loeffler Randall all day long and often stalk images of Alexa online. Also Marlien Rentmeester—she's another one i love to look at because she often pairs an affordable piece in her looks.

Most regrettable fashion choice?

Ugh—there are so many! Tie-dye overalls?

What's your favorite way to spend Saturday Morning?

Making breakfast with a great album playing and a walk to the local farmers market for flowers and donuts with the kids and our huge mutt, Sampson.

Secret recipe breakfast of champions?

My least favorite meal of the day!  I rarely have more than coffee :)

A random fact people don’t know about you?

I know every word to the Da Art of Storytellin' :)

What are you first on speed dial for amongst your friends?

Probably to commiserate about various parental mishaps. I'm always good for a worse story that makes you feel better about your own parenting.

Next on your reading list?

I read more articles these days than I do books, but my husband has been begging me to read A Moveable Feast for quite some time so that will be next.

Coffee or tea?

Coffee. A lot of it.

Last cocktail you had? With whom?

In Montclair with my friend Zoe.

Item you’d never part with?

Wedding band my mom passed down for me

Biggest peeve?

Loud chewing and humble brags

Biggest indulgence?

SoulCycle although not as frequently as I'd like

Who Loves L&V: Erin O'Rourke

Custom Engraved Name Rings

Today on the blog is an interview with one of my oldest and dearest friends in New York and the original Love & Victory cheerleader, Erin O’Rourke.

We worked together at one of our first jobs in New York at Dieu Donné where she was the Gallery Director and I ran the papermaking studio. She wandered into the gallery one day, we hit it off immediately, and the rest is history. 15 years, and between us — many jobs, 2 weddings, and 4 kids — we’re lucky enough to live in neighboring ‘hoods in Brooklyn and still be great pals.

This girl is the miracle mom to 3 kids — Sadie (almost 6), Miles (3), and Reed (1). She juggles them with serious aplomb, style and grace. She’s pretty much the funniest girl I know and keeps it real, always having a hysterical story to tell about the antics in her household.

And without further ado, Erin O’Rourke, one of the coolest ladies in Brooklyn.

Name?

Erin O'Rourke

Age?

36

Where do you live?

Park Slope, Brooklyn

Occupation?

Stay at home mom

Which product did you pick?

Baby Name Rings

What do your kids think of them?

I had no idea so I asked them.

Sadie (age 5)  "Cool and good and I love them."

Miles (age 3)  "Ah I don't know." "Nevermind."

Reed (age 1)  No comment

How would you describe your style?

Struggling. Ha. It's pretty simple these days. Jeans, sweater and some booties. If I have lipstick on its a good day.

Whose style do you stalk?

I love the ladies of Brooklyn. From the women walking to the subway heading to the city to the moms on the playground.  I love Jessie Randall's style. She always looks so stylish but effortless. And Maryanne Moodie, belted Pendleton type blanket over pregnant belly — so good.

What's your favorite way to spend Saturday Morning?

Favorite? Sleeping in, but I'm in a run club and we meet every Saturday morning at 8:15am. So I literally hit the ground running every Saturday. It's such a great group of ladies. We can chat and get advice, etc. while we are getting our work out in. Plus, most of us are training for the Brooklyn Half Marathon in May which is so awesome but I'm definitely scared. EEK.

Coffee or tea?

Coffee. All day erryday.

Fave jeans?

I want to say J Brand or some other fancy type, but sadly I'm usually wearing Old Navy or Gap.

Drink?

It's so trendy right now but my husband and I are loving Moscow Mules. So good.

Item you’d never part with?

Honestly, my Baby Name Rings. I love them so much. But one day I'd like to give each kid their ring. But I'm talking when they get married...

Most regrettable fashion choice?

I was obsessed with Soleil Moon Frye from Punky Brewster and I had a sweatshirt with the shows logo. I never wanted to take it of. Oh and white eyeliner. Not good.

Can’t live without?

Mayo. Yeah, I said it!

Who Loves L&V: Lauren & Drew

Couple's Gifts

Names?

Lauren Kodiak + Andrew Sottile

Ages?

26 and 28

Where do you live?

Connecticut

Occupations?

English Professor (Andrew) and Copy Editor / Writer / Social Media Manager (Lauren)

[L&V: Check out Lauren's work here. We're particularly smitten with her food photography! Stay tuned for a collaboration between Lauren & L&V!]

Which Love & Victory product do you have? What do you like about it?

We have the Ours Decanter Set and love its classic look and feel! The etched "His, Hers, and Ours" is such a fun touch.

What do you store in your decanter? Who gets to choose what goes in the decanter?

Right now, we're storing some Bulleit Rye Whiskey in the decanter. Andrew chose the whiskey, but come summer, Lauren plans to fill it with gin to make plenty of gin and tonics.

What’s your most treasured possession?

Does a cat count? We are obsessed with Penny, our asthmatic (and sometimes hostile but mostly lovable) cat.

How did you meet?

At a party in college! Drew remembers that Lauren was wearing a white sweater, drinking pink wine from the bottle, and Lauren remembers that Drew looked like her celebrity crush (Zach Galifianakis). They hit it off immediately.

How will you be spending Valentine’s Day?

Dinner at home, with plenty of wine and chocolate!

What's your favorite way to spend Saturday morning?

No alarm, French press coffee, pancakes or scrambled eggs, pajamas, and a good book!

Coffee or tea?

Both. We rely on coffee to function in the morning, but drink mint tea with honey every night after dinner! (Does that last part make us sound elderly? Because we are.)

Who Loves L&V: Rachel Gladfelter

On this gray, slushy day in New York City, check out our pal, Rachel Gladfelter, looking all sunny and relaxed in Tulum. Goodness. I bet she'd love to be back there now.

Rachel's had our Custom Silhouette Charms – of her grandmothers back in Pennsylvania, Ruthanna & Janet – almost since Love & Victory's inception, and she wears them sweetly almost every day.

Name?

Rachel Lynn Gladfelter

Age?

33

Where do you live?

Gowanus, Brooklyn

Occupation?

Director at Pace Prints, Pie-maker on the side

Which product did you pick? Why?

I chose two custom silhouettes of my grandmothers, with their names, Janet and Ruthanna, engraved.  This idea was at the suggestion of the talented Meg Moorhouse, who knows how much they mean to me.  I love to wear them; I always have a piece of home with me.

What do your grandmothers think of your charms?

They got a real tickle out of them.  They are flattered, though Ruthie has revealed that she has never really liked her profile...but, she's just being self-deprecating.  They're both gorgeous.

How would you describe your style?

Farm girl meets city chic.  I generally like to keep it pretty effortless and basic, as I can be a bit of a spaz.

Whose style do you stalk?

Alexa Chung, Clemence Poesy.

Worst date?

It wasn't the worst but I do think it's my most -worth-mentioning: I went on a date with a progressive puppeteer.  That's a thing.

Best date?

Renting scooters in Mexico with my boyfriend, Erik.  We drove them all over the place, up highways and back dirt roads to a cenote where we swam in the caves.  We ended the day by going to Hartwood in Tulum for one of the best meals ever, then rode the scoots back to the cabana.

What’s your morning routine?

Hit the snooze a couple of times.  Slowly drag myself to the shower.  I'm a total sucker for long showers.  Once I have a coffee, I'm ready to hop on the subway to Chelsea & read for 45 minutes. Bring it, world!

Last supper?

Um.  A homemade cinnamon bun.  I was experimenting with a recipe...I swear, I ate a healthy lunch.

Most prized possession?

The friendship ring my Dad gave my Mom close to 40 years ago.  It's got this gorgeous etched braid in the gold band & a great setting making the diamond look bigger than it is. Smart move & don't worry, the diamonds got bigger from there.  She did just fine:)

You have Mondays off when the gallery is closed. What’s your favorite way to spend the day?

Usually Monday morning is spent catching up on housework & work emails, but I love having a latte, baking something & then heading into the pottery studio for the rest of the day.  It's so gratifying making things.

How do you want 2015 to be different than 2014?

I want to create a new morning routine!  I'd like to get to the gym before work.  It always makes me feel better, and despite me knowing this is so hard to do.  Why is that?
