I was recently given this bottle of a new liqueur, L'Orgeat, to try which seemed like the best excuse for a batch of Friday Mai Tais. It's officially autumn, but it's 80-some degrees out in Brooklyn, so far be it from me to call an end to tiki season.
I had a wonderful beach weekend with my girlfriends down the shore (NJ! No kids!) last weekend, and I got a ton of rad, vintage cocktail swords at an antiques show, so this seemed like a great excuse to give them a whirl.
Here's a spin on a classic Trader Vic Mai Tai — served in our flamingo glass. Cheers to the weekend!
L'Orgeat Mai Tai
2 oz aged rum
3/4 oz lime juice
1/2 oz dry orange Curaçao
1/2 oz L'Orgeat liqueur
1/4 oz rock candy syrup (like simple syrup but super saturated)
maraschino cherry, mint sprig, and lime wheel garnish
Shake all ingredients with ice and strain into glass over crushed ice. Garnish with a mint spring, cherry, and lime wheel.
